You know your child better than us, so it can be a bit difficult for us to recommend specific toys super by age group. When you see the group age contained in a package of toy, it's always more of a general proposition that a specific limitation. Some children may excel in terms of mathematics and motor skills, preferring complex construction toys at a young age, while in about the same pace as others when reading and writing. Others may already be on chapter books, but not ready for the complicated Lego kits.
The age groups toy is a pretty good guide to select toys say, a niece or nephew, if you're not quite sure where it is in its development, but for parents, are more of a loose guideline. So with this in mind, we hope the following will help you understand what those ratings on age-group of seriously …
To begin, however, 0-12 months and 1-2 years should be strictly followed for the most part. For infants, there are only so many toys that are actually completely safe for the child in the first place. Your baby may be a genius, but if you think your little Einstein is ready to Play-Doh, you better be ready to change diapers some rainbow colors in the week.
For the range of 3-4 years of age, toys are generally much easier for most of the one that will interest you in the next year or two. Children at this age are still catching basic motor skills, so catch up on everything before starting to hand over The Great Gatsby or anything. At this point, is all about physical development and coordination. Reading, writing, and arithmetic arrived a little later.
From 5-7, it gets a little more complicated to nail down. Some children are already reading chapter books by the time they are seven years old, while others are just learning the alphabet. In general, however, this is the age range where the basic math and reading first really come into play. Any toy with buttons of numbers or letters is a great choice at this time.
Eight years later … is becoming more and more difficult to categorize children by age when it comes to developmental toys. Level gauge their own child education, their interests, curiosities, and offer them something difficult.
In fact, this is probably the basic idea to keep in mind when shopping for educational toys. Always looking for something a little more difficult for your child has already proved able to handle. A child who loves the Duplo blocks may be ready to Lego and Mega Bloks. A child who likes books of children may be ready his book or the first chapter. You always want be offering a degree of challenge, because that's where it really comes from learning. If no challenge, it's boring, and will not keep children's interest over time enough so they can learn something from it (not that has something new to teach them anyway).
One thing worth noting, the activity books LeapFrog. They are recommended for ages 3-4 and 5-7. Three is too young for most kids to start reading, but books also provide illustrations throughout color and are interactive electronic toys, so they really offer much for all ages. You might even be surprised to play with him at some point.
