Every year there is a news story about children who were injured while playing with the new toy, the biggest of the season. Even when the toy is marked as suitable for children aged 3 years or less, the result is disastrous.
As you can imagine, the father or grandfather who bought the toy is devastated about this accident. This year, there has been a spate of recalls of children's toys. How are we supposed that one of the parents to predict the risk and protect their children from dangerous toys that can put under the Christmas tree?
You can expect that nothing in the hand of a child is the time to enter the mouth. No matter carefully what is supervised recreation, young children have little hand down to a fine art. Consider these basic rules boy toy shopping:
1. If it's a soft toy such as Sesame Street Plush Toy, make sure it is washable.
2. Twist of the eyes, buttons or other decorations that stands to determine if it is properly connected. Toy makers are supposed to use items that contain specific safety attachments, but can you expect that with all the horror stories about imported toys?
3. Cloth toys should be done with fabrics fire resistant or flame retardant. Check the label and if you do not see these terms, do not buy it.
4. Painted toys, whether plastic or wood, they must be made with lead-free paint. The dangers of ingestion lead to young children are critical and lead to life long damage. Again, there is concern with the toys imported from China that do not meet lead-free standards for toys made in America. The Fisher Price Learning Fun Elmo Laptop is a safe and fun for children!
5. Crayons or finger paints must be non-toxic. Red paint looks as tasty as a child red cake icing. Look on the label for this notation: ASTM D-4236. This proves that the colored product was approved by the American Society for Testing and Materials.
6. Look inside any box or compartment of a toy ensure that no smaller component parts. Anything small that can fit inside a paper towel roll is a choking hazard.
7. If the toy makes a noise, make sure you have an "off". That will help you remain friends with the parents who will be happy to wake from deep sleep with the sound of toy horns.
The most important thing to remember is to stay within the recommended age guidelines. His two years of age may be the next mathematical genius, but development of age means that it will act as two years of age and place small parts in the mouth or difficulty manipulating the objects for a more advanced game. These guidelines come from the Product Safety Commission Consumer based on years of research and then test. Being an intelligent adult and choose an age appropriate toy.
